08/31/10 Balance =        $   9,826.91

Charlie Anderson reported that dues levels were slightly below levels at this same point last year with 130 members.  Major bills paid for the month included $223 for security, this was a partial payment and the remainder will be paid in September. The board voted to approve the Treasurer's report.

COMMITTEES:

Community Watch – Chris Savage attended the bi-monthly community watch meeting sponsored by the Sheriff’s Dept.  This month’s meeting was brief because officers needed to tend to the recent drive-by shootings into two police officers homes in Chesapeake Ranch Estates.  Recent arrests had been made of suspects that were stealing from homes and cars in the County so this activity may slow down. This month’s meeting focus on the problems with prescription and over the counter drug abuse.  At 7:00 p.m. on October 20, 2010 at Huntingtown High School there is a county sponsored community forum on the topic.  For those wishing to dispose of old prescriptions or over the counter medications there is a drop-off box in front of the Sheriff’s office in Prince Frederick.

Security – Charlie Anderson reported that security patrol officers will be cutting their hours back to 2 hours on weekend nights.  Two recent events included, a teen within a group of juveniles shouting obscenities on Ave D. who was subsequently pursued by an angry Ave D resident.  The juveniles dispersed once they hit the beach.  The other event was a teen being questioned by police late one evening at the Ave D. stairs.  No one was sure of what happened in this case, but the parents were called and the juvenile was picked up by his parents.

Mosquito control – Pat McKnett reported that the regular driver of the mosquito sprayer had a stroke and a replacement driver had been found and there may be changes in the service delivery times.  Season is coming to an end and monitoring will soon end as well.

Fossil Day – Doug Crow reported that this joint event between LBCA and CBCA will be held on September 25th @ 9:30 a.m. and will begin in the parking lot at Long Beach with fossil identification by experts later in the day.  Charlie Anderson reported that a brochure on this event was sent to the CBCA mail list using MailChimp in an effort market this event.  LBCA has enough people to help with set up of tables and chairs.

St. Leonard Vision Group – Doug Crow had an opportunity to discuss SLVG’s recent inclusion of CBCA name on a letter of support for the study of water and sewer in St. Leonard with Commissioner Susan Shaw.  He reiterated that this was not the stance of CBCA and that this was also communicated to the Department of Planning and Zoning.

Bill Miller attended the recent SLVG meeting on behalf of CBCA and reported what a positive and community-oriented group they were.  The group is sponsoring “Movie Night” on October 23, 2010.  The movie may be “UP” and the event will have a Halloween theme with concessions and candy.  Proceeds from the evening would be donated to a local child with Rett’s Syndrome.  Bill also stated that two of the board members also serve on the County’s Architectural Review Board.  He also stated that he will be on business travel in October and won’t be able to attend the next meeting.

St. Leonard Business Owner’s Group – Doug Crow invited Steve Weems, President of the Business Owners Group to attend tonight’s meeting but he was unable to attend due previous commitment.  Doug will invite him to a future meeting.

Boat Ramp (fire lane sign, etc.) – The sign has been purchased and is currently in Charlie Anderson’s garage awaiting installation.  He may need to rent an auger to install the sign, as the ground at the boat ramp area is very hard.

OLD BUSINESS:

Landscaping Problem at the neighborhood’s entrance sign – Based on Charlie Anderson’s review of the faucet situation, the board has agreed not to replace the faucet on the house next to the entrance sign. Consider replacing plants with more drought resistant plant in the future.

Landscaping at Water Tank (where Calvert Beach Rd turns into Bayview Rd) – Doug Crow noticed that someone had mowed and cleaned up the area around the tank and wanted to know if anyone knew anything about it.  The efforts are certainly appreciated.

NEW BUSINESS:

Dues Update:  130 dues paying members, $250 collected in the last month.

Coming Fall Newsletter – Articles, etc. - This is due out in November.  If board members have any ideas for articles please submit them to Doug Crow.  Chris Savage will work on changing the format of the newsletter.

Future Invitees for CBCA Meetings – Invite LBCA for these? – Doug Crow discussed the idea of inviting LBCA to future CBCA meetings when we have invited a guest speaker.  This would increase the attendance and add value to the meetings.  Consensus was that this was a good idea.

2010 Primaries – Many were very surprised that Linda Kelly did not make it through the primary.  She has always been a very community- oriented commissioner and regularly attended the National Night Out.  Local businessman Steve Weems seems to have done well in the primaries.

CBCA Secretary Need - Chris Savage (who is filling in for the vacant secretary position) reported that he may have difficulty performing the secretary duties in the future due to a graduate class he is taking this fall.  Terrye Zaremba agreed to help with minutes of the October meeting.

Facebook Page – Doug Crow thanked Charlie Anderson for putting this together for the organization.  Spread the word, “friend” some neighbors.

Mail Chimp Update – CBCA will continue to use mail chimp to disseminate information about the organization and community.  Charlie Anderson expressed surprise at the number of people who don’t open their Emails or the possibility that we have a few bad emails on record.

Website – Charlie Anderson accidently deleted some html code while working on the site and the caused portions of the site to be out of date for a few weeks.  Our regular person who knows how to use FrontPage software was out of town which led to the delayed repair.  Anyone who has web development skills and can volunteer to make updates to the community web site should see Charlie.

NEXT MEETING:   October 18, 2010 @ 7:00 PM in the LBCA Community Center.
