COMMITTEES:

Roads and Drainage -  Charlie Anderson reported that the County replaced 3 damaged stop signs on Bayview Ave.  Terrye Zaremba noted that there have been several incidents of vandalism in the community recently, including spray painting of property and of a vehicle, plus theft of license plates.  Authorities are investigating.

Community Watch and Security - David Portyrata, President of the Long Beach Civic Association (LBCA) attended today's meeting.  He said that two off duty police officers, hired jointly by the CBCA and LBCA, will begin patrols of the beach and surrounding areas this weekend.  These patrols will continue from April 2009 to October 2009.  The officers will provide bi-weekly reports to the Civic Associations.  The CBCA board approved the expenditure of $2,500.00, our share of the funding for these patrols.  Residents are encouraged to report any observed incidents and/or suspicious behavior to the Calvert County Sheriff's Office at

410 535-2800.  They should also notify the Civic Association Presidents of the same.  Community involvement is essential to keeping our community safe.

David also requested that the CBCA name someone to work with the LCBA on neighborhood community watch activities.  Terrye will follow-up on this.

Boat Ramp Keys -  Jim Powell said the new padlock for the boat ramp gate is ready and is being installed.  Both the current and the new keys will work in the lock for the time being.  Jim is giving 10 new keys to Terrye now with more to come soon.  The new keys will be issued to residents who pay their 2009 dues and request a key.

Beach Erosion - Tina Murphy has been looking into ways to remove two dangerous pipes near the boat ramp.  Jim Powell will work with her on this.  Dave suggested that they contact the County in case any permit and/or permission might be needed.

OLD BUSINESS:

Cards for Boat Ramp - Parking permit cards will be issued to all dues paying residents this year.  Charlie said he will pick them up at the printer's today.  Chris Rogers will work with Charlie on the distribution of these cards as dues payments are received.

Sign for Parking Lot - Jim reported that the new parking signs are being made now and he will pick them up next week.

Fun Day - Family Fun Day is scheduled for June 13, 2009 at 1:00 PM (rain date June 14).  A flyer with more information on Fun Day is being included in the April Newsletter.  Terrye suggested the purchase of another picnic table for the boat ramp and the board voted approval of this expenditure which is expected to be approximately $150.00.

Lighting at Ave D Stair - Terrye continues looking into this.  The cost is undetermined as yet.

NEW BUSINESS;

Newsletter - Terrye and Charlie plan to mail out the April newsletter sometime this week.  Charlie added that mention will be made in the newsletter that Travis Thorne, a Calvert Beach resident (Green Thumbs Lawn Care), has agreed to mow the lawn at the boat ramp this year.

Annual Meeting/Election Slate - On behalf of the nominating committee, Charlie presented the new slate of officers for the upcoming election, which will take place at the Annual Meeting (May 17, 2009).   The board voted to accept this slate:  President - Terrye Zaremba, Vice-President - Curtis Walker, Treasurer - Charlie Anderson, Secretary - Chris Rogers, Director - Pat McKnett.  Jim Powell, elected last year as a two-year trustee, remains in his post.  There are still two vacancies: one for Director and another for one-year Trustee.  Nominations for these positions, and additional nominations for all other offices, will be accepted during the Annual Meeting.

There was a discussion about what is the best day of the week and time for the CBCA meetings in order to maximize attendance.  It was decided to table this decision for the newly elected board.

Towing Co. Sign - Terrye said that the new towing sign has been posted at the boat ramp.  A question was raised about liability (towing company, CBCA) should a vehicle be damaged during towing.  Terrye will look into this.  She will also explore the possibility of having someone monitor the parking at the boat ramp so that owners can be warned before actually being towed.

Landscaping Sign - The board approved the posting of a sign acknowledging Mike's Works, LLC as the landscaper at the welcome sign to Calvert Beach and Long Beach.  Terrye said this sign will be placed so as not to impede visibility at the intersection.

Church Group Party - Non-residents recently held a party on Calvert Beach and had not followed proper procedures for requesting permission from CBCA.  Terrye has contacted the non-resident responsible for the group and she is attempting to determine whether this group were guests of a resident or not.  She is also informing them of the regulations for the use of Calvert Beach since it is private property.

Other - Charlie Anderson raised three additional items.  First, he requested the appropriation of $30.00 for purchase of materials to repair the chain link fence at the boat ramp.  The board voted approval.  Charlie Bauerdorf will be helping Charlie in making this repair.  Second, Charlie noted that a quorum is required for the upcoming annual meeting.  He encouraged the board and community members present to be sure to attend next month's meeting and to try and get other community members to turn out.  Third, on behalf of the CBCA he and Terrye thanked Dave and the LBCA for allowing us to use the Long Beach community building for our meetings.  It is much appreciated!

Audit – CBCA’s books will be audited by Karen Ritter and Charlie Bauerdorf.  Dale turned all of the records over to Charlie Anderson who will give them to Karen and Charlie B.

NEXT MEETING:  ANNUAL MEETING and ELECTION OF NEW OFFICERS - SUNDAY MAY 17th, at  2 PM - LONG BEACH COMMUNITY CENTER.  PLEASE PLAN TO ATTEND!
